Clement Desalle fourth in Sweden

Clement Desalle finished fourth in the Swedish round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship at Uddevalla to close the points gap on the leading three riders in the series standings.

Saturday qualification had already proved the importance of a good start and overnight rain emphasised this yet further as it soon became evident that passing would be difficult in the slippery conditions with deep ruts abounding all around the track. After a series of close battles Clement eventually finished fourth in the opening moto and two hours later rode a strong race to again finish fourth. He remains fourth in the series standings but is now just eleven points behind the rider in second place so he goes to the final three GPs with all to play for.

Tommy Searle of Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki continued his return to racing after missing most of the season through injury and showed a significant improvement in form since his return to action one week earlier. He persevered despite accident-damaged front forks in the opening race to finish fifteenth and followed this with a strong ride to twelfth in race two.

Clément Desalle: “I realised already on Saturday that the start would be important, maybe even more than on other tracks, and for the last two weekends my starts have not been quite as good as they were earlier this season. In the first race I was seventh or eighth at the start and finished fourth; I was trying to make some passes earlier in the race but each failed and it was frustrating but thankfully in the last lap two riders made mistakes so I could finish fourth. The second start was a little bit better; I was sixth, then fifth but I lost time to pass Coldenhoff. I was coming back at Paulin but made a small mistake and I finished fourth again. I missed the podium by a couple of points, but I will continue to work as it is now very close from the second to the fourth position in the championship.”

Tommy Searle: “I saw some improvements since last week; in the first race I had some troubles when the front fork was damaged early in the race so it was difficult for my hands but I finished fifteenth. In the second race I finished twelfth; I had a better pace than last week, running near the front for the full race distance so I can see a big improvement, which is what I need at the moment. I’m very pleased with the bike and the team.”
