MTM Kawasaki confirm 2025 riders and team structure

The World Supersport 300 five time Team World Champion MTM Kawasaki team is pleased to announce the renewal of Mirko Gennai together with the signing of young Australian Carter Thompson, who will make his permanent debut in the FIM World Supersport 300 Championship. The team created by Ludo Van Der Veken will also manage the Kawasaki Junior Team by MTM with Czech race winner Petr Svoboda who will be joined by young Spanish rookie Roberto Fernandez.

After clinching the fifth consecutive team title in the Supersport 300 World Championship, MTM Kawasaki is pleased to announce its renewed lineup for the 2025 season, the final one in a category dominated in recent years by Ludo Van Der Veken's team.

Following a season where he played a pivotal role in securing the team title, with three victories and four podium finishes, Mirko Gennai will continue with MTM Kawasaki for another season, aiming to complete the work started in 2024. Joining the Italian rider will be the young Australian Carter Thompson, who recently turned 17. After participating in four events in 2024, where he achieved two podiums and one pole position, Thompson will now make his debut as a full-time rider, forming a young and talented lineup alongside Gennai.

MTM Kawasaki's new developments also include the introduction of a second tier structure, called Kawasaki Junior Team by MTM, which will be managed by the Belgian team, further expanding its involvement in the Supersport 300 category.

Riding the two Kawasaki Ninja 400s will be Petr Svoboda, a former race winner who faced a challenging 2024 season due to injury, from which the Czech rider is currently recovering to be ready for the start of the 2025 season. He will be joined by Roberto Fernandez, a young Spanish rider who, after a few wildcard appearances, will make his debut as a full-time rider, competing with Kawasaki for the first time in his career.

The 2025 season will mark the final year of the Supersport 300 category in the WorldSBK Championship, and MTM Kawasaki is ready to embrace the ultimate challenge in a class where the Belgian team has been a dominant force over the years. The goal is clear and it’s to try to finish this incredible chapter in its history in the best way possible. Mirko Gennai, Carter Thompson, Petr Svoboda, and Roberto Fernandez are ready for it.

Ludo Van Der Veken: “Finally we can reveal our 2025 plans and I’m really happy about the lineup we will have in World Supersport 300. I’m glad we could confirm Mirko, as we had a very strong first year together, as well as adding to the team a strong young rider like Carter Thompson, who is already a podium finisher in his first appearances in World Supersport 300.
I’m really happy also to be able to welcome two more riders to our family with Kawasaki Junior Team by MTM, with Petr Svoboda, already a race winner in this championship with a great potential to show, and Roberto Fernandez, who will make his debut with us and I’m sure he can grow up a lot during this first season together with us. I want to thank all our sponsors and partners and especially Kawasaki Europe for the strong support into this project”

Mirko Gennai: “I’m very happy to renew my agreement with MTM Kawasaki and be with a team for a second year. This season we got three wins and strong results but a bit of bad luck didn’t allow us to get more, but I’m confident we can be very strong in 2025. I have a very good feeling with all the team, now I got used to the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and I’m really looking forward to start my second season with the team and Kawasaki and try to finish on a high my career in Supersport 300”

Carter Thompson: “I'm pleased to be joining the MTM Kawasaki team for the FIM World SuperSport 300 Championship in 2025. I am so looking forward to this opportunity and working together with the team. Hoping to achieve the best we can every race, with as many wins and podiums as we can to achieve the end goal.  Can't wait to start 2025 with the team. Looking forward to it”

Roberto Fernandez: “I’m very excited and grateful for the amazing opportunity I’ve been given and to make my debut as permanent rider in the FIM World Supersport 300 Championship for Kawasaki Junior Team by MTM. This is a dream come true, I really can’t wait and I will give 100% in every race, working to the fullest to represent the team in the best possible way. I feel ready and can’t wait to begin this new chapter. Let’s go!”

Petr Svoboda: “It’s really good for me to be able to continue my career in Supersport 300 and to join Kawasaki Junior Team by MTM. I know the Kawasaki very well and I join the best team in the category so it’s already a very nice starting point so I can’t wait to work with the team and give my best on track. I’m currently recovering from my injury and I’m getting better and better so I’m focused on training and recovery and I’m really excited to start this new challenge in my career”
