Another top ten for Wilson Todd in Turkey

Bike It MTX Kawasaki’s Wilson Todd raced to his fourth top-ten GP finish of the season in the eighth round of this year’s FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at Afyonkarahisar in Turkey.

On his first visit to the facility one thousand metres above sea level the Australian spent Qualifying learning the track as he posted the twelfth-fastest lap time. Twelfth on lap one of the opening moto he advanced to eleventh after fifteen minutes in a tightly-knit leaderboard with few passing moves as all of the leading riders were posting similar lap times throughout the thirty-five minute moto. After a better start in race two he immediately established a hold on ninth and moved forward to eighth on lap two, eventually securing seventh on the final lap of the day to secure ninth overall, his fourth top-ten GP finish in eight rounds.

Wilson Todd: “The day wasn’t too bad. The track was OK with some good ruts but you needed a good start to run up front. I spun at the gate the first moto which left me just outside the top ten. The second start was better but I was just a little too far outside from my gate-pick at turn one and got pushed out so had to chase again. “

It was a frustrating race day for the F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team after both Mikkel Haarup and Mathys Boisrame had posted top ten Qualifying times. The young Dane, tenth in Qualifying, was delayed in the hectic first turn at the start of race one to complete the opening lap seventeenth. He quickly advanced to fifteenth during the first ten minutes before an incident cost him three positions; he regained one of those to finish seventeenth. A top-ten start in race two provided the basis for a solid ride to eighth in the moto to secure eleventh overall.

Mathys Boisrame, ninth in Qualifying, got closed down at turn one in the first moto but quickly recovered to eighth; he held station in a rapidly-moving leaderboard before a small mistake in the closing laps proved costly as he lost two places to finish tenth. A scary incident soon after the start of race two saw the Frenchman thrown off the track into a trackside TV scaffolding; when he finally recovered his bike he was more than a minute behind the entire field but showed character to set off in pursuit. His chase was rewarded with the final point in twentieth position; he remains ninth in the series points standings.

Mathys Boisrame: « It wasn’t a good day for me, in fact let’s say it was a bad day. In the first moto my start was not so good; I could come back quickly into the top eight but then I lost two positions during the last couple of laps due to a small mistake. Just after the second start I didn’t see a rut as there was a little dust on the outside and I had a big crash; I hit a TV scaffolding. I lost a lot of time to take my bike off the scaffolding so I was more than a minute behind everyone; I rejoined the race and gave my best to score just one little point. We’ll just have to put this day behind us and do better on Wednesday."

The series continues on Wednesday with the ninth round at the same facility in Anatolia.
