Home Round For Kawasaki Puccetti Racing

FIM Supersport World Championship riders Can Öncü and Yari Montella will race at their team’s local round when they take to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli between 10-12 June.

The Kawasaki Puccetti Racing duo are fully prepared to fight for the podium places at the 4.226Km long Misano circuit near the Adriatic coast of Italy, after some strong showings in the previous rounds.

Despite still only being 18 years-of-age Öncü has taken two podium finishes in 2022 - and five in all. His next aim is to win a race and there could be no better venue on the calendar than his team’s local racetrack to realise that ambition.

Montella, an Italian rider in an Italian team during his rookie WorldSSP season, has a current career best of fourth place. He will have two chances at Misano, during the scheduled 18-lap races on Saturday and Sunday, to join the podium club in his new chosen class of racing.

Both Kawasaki Puccetti Racing machines will feature retro Elf colour schemes at Misano, in a now annual celebration of the long relationship between the team and its lubricants partner at their home event.

In the points table, after three rounds, Can is fifth overall, with personal high points of two third place finishes. After a strong Estoril weekend last time out - with sixth then fourth place finishes - Yari jumped up to sixth place overall in the championship standings.

On completion of the Misano weekend Round Five of the FIM Supersport Championship will see the teams cross the English Channel for the Donington Park race weekend, to be held between 15-17 July.

Can Öncü, stated: “I know that this is the home round for my team and that everyone really wants to do well. This only spurs me on to do as well as I possibly can. In the previous races, we’ve shown that we are very competitive and that we can fight for victory, and it would be good to be able to achieve that at my team’s home event.”

Yari Montella, stated: “It will be a different kind of weekend, but I feel relaxed because I’ve trained hard over the last few weeks, taking care of every detail. The home round is always something special. It will be emotional to race in front of our fans and with the support of our sponsors. I’ve even prepared special graphics for my helmet. I’m ready and can’t wait for Friday so that I can get out on track.”

First year WorldSSP rider Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) has moved on from his championship-winning WorldSSP300 season in 2021 with great pace and determination. He is already inside the championship top ten, as he builds confidence each weekend.

Tom Booth-Amos (Prodina Racing Kawasaki) is another new WorldSSP rider promoted from WorldSSP300 this year. An unfortunate leg injury suffered early in the Assen race weekend has prevented him from competing recently, but he hopes to be declared fit to ride at Misano.

Ben Currie (Motozoo Racing by Puccetti Kawasaki) scored his first championship point at the previous round in Estoril, while his team-mate Jeffrey Buis is aiming to get on the scoreboard this coming weekend.
