Öttl Sixth After Restarted Race

A shortened 12-lap WorldSSP Race Two at Misano saw Philipp Öttl score sixth place in hot and punishing riding conditions. His team-mate Can Öncü was unfortunate to not be able to restart the short final Sunday race after an earlier fall.

In the first attempt at running the race on Sunday a red flag incident called a halt to proceedings and then delivered a completely restarted race, run over 12 laps, not the planned 18.

A degradation of the track surface at turn four took some time to clean up making for the shorter final lap score. The six individual race of the season still counted for full championship points.

Öttl, starting from eighth place on the grid, battle his way to the front of the second group, and to within two seconds of the lead. In the latter part of the race he was unable to bridge the gap to the leaders but still scored strong championship points.

Öncü was a faller in the first attempted running of Race Two and although finally able to restart his machine and navigate his way back to the pits he was unable to start the 12 lap re-run.

In the championship points Philipp is fourth overall with 72, Can is still ranked 13th with 25 points.

With no WorldSSP race at Donington Park the next round for the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders and their peer group will be at Assen in the Netherlands, between 23-25 July.

Philipp Öttl, stated: “Today we were a lot closer than yesterday but my starts in the pack were not very good. Normally I start well but it was a lot harder. I had a better feeling with the bike today and we did a good job to prepare it. When the group of five went today using the slipstream, I tried and tried to catch them but I couldn’t do it. I tried very hard today. If we are in the leading group then it is not such a big problem but this weekend we were not in the group. The pace was really, really high. We will try our best to be back in there at Assen.”

Can Öncü, stated: “I do not understand why I crashed as I was riding a very nice race, with the leading group. Unfortunately I could not restart after the red flag and I am very dissatisfied because we could not take advantage of all the good work we have done during the weekend.”

Motorland podium rider Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura Kawasaki) was seventh in race two, less than 0.3 seconds behind Öttl. He is now eighth overall in the championship standings with three rounds completed.

Michel Fabrizio (Motozoo Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) retired in the pits in Race Two. Leonardo Taccini (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) placed 19th and Shogo Kawasaki (Motozoo Puccetti Racing) 22nd.
