An eighth place for Tyla Rattray in England

Tyla Rattray retained his top ten series ranking with a first moto eighth for the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team in the British round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship.

The South African had high hopes of his best result of the season as he comfortably ran top six in the opening moto but unfortunately the race was red-flagged after an accident to another rider and he had to show great spirit to move forward from an initial eleventh in the rerun for eighth at the chequered flag. Hopes of a similar result in race two were foiled when a rock damaged his goggles and, his vision impaired by the dust which consequently penetrated his eye protection, he had to settle for eleventh place. Tyla retains tenth place in the series standings.

Xavier Boog, the Frenchman who is deputising for Ryan Villopoto during the American champion's enforced absence from racing, had a disappointing weekend as he could only manage seventeenth and nineteenth placing as poor starts hampered his performance in each moto.

Tyla Rattray: “In the second moto I took a rock in my goggles and then got a lot of dirt in my eyes and couldn’t charge forward.  I felt very good on the track, we had some good starts, but also a bad one in the second one, the starts are now so important that you need to be in front to be able to go that pace with the front guys. My best start was in the first race, but they red flagged it so I lost this advantage. I’m safe, but keep my head down and keep working and look forward to the next GP in France.”

Xavier Boog: “I was for sure expecting better results for this first race with Team Monster Energy KRT, but I had a series of very bad starts this weekend and then struggled to make passes. I’m disappointed but we’ll work hard with the team this week to prepare the next round which is a real ‘home GP’ for me as Villars is not far from my town.”
