Romain Febvre denied second on the last lap of Qualifying

Romain Febvre of Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP was the fastest man on-track but was denied second on the final lap of Qualifying for the German round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship.

The Frenchman was quickly on the move from an initial sixth to take over fourth on the second lap of Qualifying at Teutschenthal and continued to push forward impressively to swoop around for third on lap six of thirteen. Consistently setting the fastest laps of the race he closed down the rider ahead dramatically to race past for second halfway round the final lap before his rival mounted a surprise attack three corners from the finish which left the Kawasaki rider sprawling on the ground before remounting to cross the finish-line fifth.

Romain Febvre: « I had a good feeling on the track all day; it was very technical with many ruts and I enjoyed it. My speed was good and I felt confident for the Qualifying race. My start was not that good as I touched with another rider straight out of the gate, but I could take a tight line in the first corner to come out sixth. I rode a good race with the fastest laps and passed several riders to reach second on the last lap but Seewer came back hard on the inside three corners from the finish; there was no space and I crashed. I’m disappointed to lose this second position; I still have the fifth gate for tomorrow's races but for sure the second one would have been even better. »

KRT teammate Mitch Evans continued to signal his return to race-fitness with his first Qualifying point of the season. The Australian had already impressed in practice with seventh-fastest time but an awkward first turn in Qualifying left him eighteenth at the first split. Undaunted he responded superbly to advance to eleventh mid-moto before storming into tenth on the penultimate lap.

Mitch Evans: "Another step in the right direction! I'm happy with my progress and my first point in Qualifying; I didn't get the best start but I feel a whole lot better on the bike now I'm getting my race-pace back. I really like this track and always look forward to coming back each year. It's technical; that slows the speeds down and makes you think. I'm in a good mind-set for tomorrow now."

The F&H Kawasaki Racing Team had a frustrating day in the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship as Kevin Horgmo, twelfth in Timed Practice, was eliminated from the Qualifying race after tagging bars with another rider entering turn one. The Norwegian suffered no broken bones when he crashed hard but will be retained in hospital overnight for observation after being badly shaken and will not line-up for tomorrow's GP motos. It was already decided during the week to delay a return to racing for his Spanish teammate David Braceras for a further week. Big Van World MTX Kawasaki’s Jack Chambers raced top-fifteen for half of Qualifying before pulling out, while Charlie Cole finished his first ever GP twenty seventh.

BUD Racing Kawasaki's Quentin Marc Prugnières again showed good speed to take the chequered flag fifth, and eventually be classified fourth when another rider was penalized, after a series of passes from his initial tenth in the first moto of the FIM European EMX250 Championship round.

Quentin Marc Prugnières: « It was a more positive day than last weekend. The Qualifying session was not that good, but from the tenth gate I got a decent start, came back to fifth, and was classified fourth as one rider got a penalty. I’m happy with my riding today; I was able to find good lines and a good rhythm. The track is very technical; that’s nice as we don’t have many ruts so often. You have to ride clever and find solutions; I like that and the goal will be to have fun again on track for the second moto tomorrow."
