Mahias And Okubo Take On Penultimate Round

Recent winner of the French WorldSSP round Lucas Mahias and his team-mate Hikari Okubo (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) head off to the forthcoming WorldSSP round in Argentina full of determination to record more strong results.

2017 FIM Supersport World Champion Mahias was on race-winning form at his home round at the end of September and approaches the next challenge in Argentina in confident mood, ready to fight for the race victory once again.

After experiencing some bad luck in the early rounds Lucas is now settled into the overall team structure. Rider and team are extracting the maximum possible performance from the machine, with results steadily improving to the point of winning the Magny Cours race. Lucas is in a fighting fourth place overall with two rounds to go, on a total of 125 points.

Just one place behind his team-mate in the championship rankings, Hikari was fifth in France, but just over a second from the podium. A top three finish is his primary target in Argentina, as he aims to round out the season in a top five placing overall.

The Circuito San Juan Villicum is a true modern classic which came onto the calendar in 2018 for the very first time. Featuring some dramatic elevation changes and a wide variety of corners – nit to mention a huge back straight - the 4.276km long circuit is expected to provide a top class backdrop for the WorldSSP race on Sunday 13th October.

After Argentina the championship will finish up under floodlights at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar, with the final race on Saturday 26th October.

Lucas Mahias, stated: “I am ready for a new round on another continent. I do not know this Argentinean track on my bike yet so I am not sure how it will go, but we will give it 100%. I am ready for working in the same direction as Magny Cours with the team and ready to fight for the race win again.”

Hikari Okubo, stated: “I did well in France but I didn’t get a podium. It was a big problem. I remember that my best result last year was in Argentina, so I think we can do good work again this weekend in San Juan.”

A superb top-three finish at the previous round for Ayrton Badovini (Team Pedercini Racing Kawasaki) was another step forward for both rider and team. Kyle Smith, already the FIM Europe Supersport Cup (ESS) winner now heads to Argentina to join the team again as a one-event rider. In the overall championship, Ayrton is tenth and Kyle 16th.

Rob Hartog (Team Hartog – Against Cancer Kawasaki) and Glenn van Straalen (EAB Racing Team Kawasaki) are still tied on points, but Glenn is ranked one place higher, in 20th.
