Fourth For Sofuoglu On The Misano Grid

Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Mahi Racing Team India) led the Kawasaki push in qualifying at Misano as he finished fourth fastest over a single lap in preparation for Sunday’s 19-lap WSS race.

Sofuoglu used his bike's performance to the full to set good lap times through the practice and qualifying sessions, as he and his team worked to eliminate a small degree of chatter from his pre-race set-up. In finishing fourth in the single qualifying session Kenan now heads up the second row of the grid and is confident of a strong race pace on Sunday.

Florian Marino (Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres) was seventh and the next quickest Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R rider behind Sofuoglu after qualifying. The 45-minute qualifying session was held in warm conditions this afternoon and with track temperatures of nearly 50°C.

Patrick Jacobsen (Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres) was only one place behind his team-mate Marino and he finished qualifying one place ahead of local threat and WSS regular for Kawasaki, Roberto Tamburini (San Carlo Puccetti Racing Kawasaki).

On home ground Roby Rolfo (Kawasaki Team Go Eleven) went 13th in qualifying while Tamburini’s team-mate Alessandro Nocco (San Carlo Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) was 14th, 1.6 seconds from pole.

Christian Gamarino (Kawasaki Team Go Eleven) was the final rider in the top 20 and Tony Covena (Kawasaki Ponyexpres Intermoto) took the 24th place on the grid.

Kenan Sofuoglu: “I did a good qualifying lap time of 1’39.1 and I had one more tyre left, so I went out to improve my lap time again - but I knew I was pushing hard. In the second corner, I crashed. We have had some chattering issues, from the rear, which is also affecting the front and that is why I fell, I think. We still have morning warm-up to find the best set-up and then we go racing. In general the bike is working well and the power is very good. Aside from the chatter everything is working very well. We were not the fastest today over one lap but our race pace is very strong. The long run I did this morning was one of the fastest and the race is long. I would like to be on the first row for the start but the points and the race are tomorrow, not today. I think race conditions will be better for us.”
